Nissan is considering developing a new crossover base on its most popular, eco-friendly model. The Japanese automaker plans to add this new crossover to its LEAF lineup and although nothing has been stated officially, we can expect the new LEAF crossover to be built on the same platform of the LEAF compact vehicle. Several online sources have reported that the second-generation LEAF will receive a five-door hatchback model capable of delivering 250 miles per charge, due to a few tech upgrades with its battery capacity. Doran Racing drivers, Brad Jaeger and B.J. Zacharias, secured their third podium finish this past weekend for the season. At Lime Rock, this past weekend, Zacharias finished the race 0.117 seconds behind the second-place winner, and although the Nissan team didn’t finish in the top two, they did bring home their 3^rd podium finish for the season. After the race, Zacharias said: “I think if we had stayed green, Jade Buford’s tires would have fallen off and given us a shot, but the podium finish is awesome. We just want to get a little higher on the podium. I didn’t have any issues – the car was great. I really have to say that it came down to the pit stops. The Doran team did a great job in the pits. Later this month, Nissan will be competing in the Spa 24 Hours Blancpain Endurance Series. On July 25^th and 26^th, Nissan will compete in the PRO class for the first time in 2015 with the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3. Nissan Motorsports revealed that Alex Buncombe, Katsumasa Chiyo and Wolfgang Reip will be sitting behind the wheel for the team and hope to finish in the top three. Although Nissan has been in partnership with NEC Corp, its battery supplier, since the development of the Nissan LEAF electric car, the automaker is planning to drop NEC Corp and begin doing business with LG Chem. This past weekend, Todd Kelly, a Nissan Motorsports racer, placed 10^th in the 200km race at the Castrol EDGE Townsville 400 in Australia. Nissan Motorsports revealed that Kelly had a strong overall day and competed against some of the leading competitors. In a post-race interview, Kelly said: “I was happy to be seventh in qualifying and then eighth in the shoot-out, and the car was very good on the soft tires. Unfortunately, it wasn’t so great on the hard tires, so in the middle stint. I had to play around with the bars and couldn’t get a balance.
