The Renault-Nissan Alliance sold its 200,000th zero emission car last month and the its most popular EV only launched four years ago. The Nissan LEAF is by far the top selling electric vehicle worldwide and sales are up by 20% this year. Carlos Ghosn, the alliance CEO, believes that people are switching to EV’s for several reasons; the first is that they are convenient. They can be refueled at home or at the office from multiple energy sources. Along those same lines, EV’s are economical – even with gasoline prices falling, Consumer Reports recently estimated operating costs of a Nissan LEAF in the United States at 3.5 cents per mile. Lastly, Carlos believes that EV’s are fun and reliable: Globally, the Nissan and Renault EVs have the highest customer satisfaction rates than any same brand vehicle.
