Chris Hoy is an eleven-time world and six-time
Olympic cycling champion, but his life is now taking an unexpected turn – he
plans to ditch his two wheels for four instead. Nissan has announced that they
have chosen Hoy as the brand ambassador on the Road to Rio 2016. This entails
that Nissan put Hoy through its Driver Development Program to get him
familiarized with this new world he has become a part of. Recently, however,
Hoy has demonstrated to have great talent – he has raced in several club races
and Nissan will train him to compete in the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 at this
year’s British GT Championship, but it won’t stop there. The ultimate goal of
this program is to get Hoy to compete at the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours endurance
race. Hoy commented, “Nissan is already a huge contributor to the British
economy with its investment in manufacturing, technology, and design – now it
is also investing in British sporting success via the Team GB and Paralympics
GB programs. It’s fantastic for me to be working with Nissan GB on this.”

Earlier this month, the first two rounds
of the All Japan F3 Championship took place at the Suzukia Circuit and Nissan’s
racer, Mitsunori Takaboshi, placed in the top two podium finishes in both
rounds. In the first round, Takaboshi took second place, and in the second
round, he finished in first place. These two races were his first victories for
the season. The rookie C-class racer is making a name for himself in his first
season in the F3’s highest class – last season, Takaboshi raced in the N-class.
“Despite starting in pole position in the first round, an error on my part
caused me to fall back on place and I was pretty upset at myself about that.
Taking advantage of the lesson I learned in the first round I wanted to do my
utmost to make up for it in the second. The mindset seemed to work and I
managed to make a good start to carry out the best race I could. In the latter
stages of the race I managed to pull away from the competition, maintain my
lead and pass the checkered flag in first. Next is Motegi, which is a course
where overtaking is even harder than Suzuka, so I want to do the best I can in
the qualifying rounds” said Takaboshi.
