Nissan was recently ranked among the top 5% of global corporations participating in the international climate change program, led by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). The CDP collected and analyzed environmental strategies and CO2 emission-reduction efforts from more than 6,000 corporations. Nissan was the highest-ranked auto company in Japan for the second year running, which highlights not only the automaker’s focus on combating climate change with its electric vehicles, but the fact that the company aims to reduce its global impact. Nissan has been vocal about its goal of developing cars that drastically reduce “well-to-wheel” CO2 emissions by 2050. In its annual sustainability report for FY2014, we learned that Nissan reduced its carbon footprint by 22.6% in the last nine years – a full two years earlier than initially forecasted. Sales of the LEAF earned Nissan a spot on the Climate “A” List, and also noted by the Carbon Disclosure Project were the company’s efforts to reduce CO2 emissions within its manufacturing process. By all accounts above, and more, it is clear that Nissan is not just a purely capitalist-driven corporation, but that it truly understands what is important to consumers, and is taking a comprehensive approach to sustainable practices.
