The Taxi and Limousine Commission of New York City plans to acquire the NV200 cars of Nissan that may soon become the dominant yellow taxis in the city. The decision will no doubt have a significant impact on Nissan’s journey that commenced in the year 2011. It was the year when Nissan succeeded in clinching a whopping $1 billion contract for supplying the cars to be used as taxis in the city.
A challenge was thrown by some of the taxi owners in the New York City. They challenged the authority of the Commission to implement the use of the Nissan NV200 cars for taxis in New York City. At present there are as many as forty seven varied models that had been earlier approved for being used in the city as cabs. Since the Ford Crown Victoria is not being used any more, there is no one vehicle that has come out as a favorite.
But there are some owners who may select from a bevy of hybrid models such as Lexus RX45oh, Highlander Hybrid and Toyota Prius. This can emerge as a good concept for a city like NYC. However, NV200 from Nissan is unavailable as a hybrid car despite the fact that the automaker does offer an Electric Vehicle version in its other markets.
There are more than 13,000 cabs roaming around the streets of NYC so it is hardly surprising that the taxis in the city are the most visible n the country. It is precisely for this reason that the taxi fleet of the city being taken over by NV200 can boost the possibility of raising the profile of the van.
